About the Association
The Gap Community Association (GCA) is a not-for-profit group of local residents committed to protecting and enhancing the livability of The Gap. We meet once a month to discuss current issues and take a proactive role in addressing the needs of our community.
Aims of the Association
- To improve the quality of life for all Gap residents and visitors to our suburb.
- To act as a lobby group in making representations to government, developers, etc.
- To particularly address the needs of young people at The Gap.
- To foster community spirit by bringing people together and providing support to other local community groups and/or activities.
Some of our achievements
- The establishment of a ‘Police Beat’ and successful lobbying to have The Gap police station reopened.
- The development of The Gap Community Directory.
- Successful lobbying of Council, which resulted in the modification of the number of dwelling units approved in various medium to high density development sites.
- Supported the River City Centre with the Drug Proof Your Kids program.
- Re-establishment of Blue Light Discos.
- Extension of the skate bowl in the Walton Bridge Reserve.
Future directions
- To establish a Community Centre that would be focal point for a variety of local groups and activities.
- To encourage and promote the accessibility of activities and spaces for youth in the local area.
- To develop and maintain links with other community groups such as The Gap Chamber of Commerce.
We are always looking for new ideas! We would love you to come along to our meetings and share with us your thoughts, concerns and creative ideas on what The Gap Community Association ought to focus. This is the voice of your community - please use it!
