Lord Mayor responds to Gap Creek Road question

Late last week I received a response from the Lord Mayor to our association’s recent enquiries re: the future of Gap Creek Road. This road got a mention in the recent Brisbane City Council (BCC) 2005-06 budget.

To quote the key passage from the Lord Mayor’s letter:
“Brisbane City Council officers are currently looking into a range of options (for Gap Creek Road), which primarily relate to safety issues. I expect the investigation will be completed in the second half of 2005 and at that time a decision will be made with regards to any future works (if any) to Gap Creek Road. The findings from this investigation will be forwarded to you as soon as they are available.”

I’ll table this letter at our next Gap Community Association meeting on Monday, 27 June, 7 pm start at The Gap Soccer Club. We can discuss further then.

I’m concerned at the amount of traffic that will be using Payne Rd and Illowra Streets as a result, and that this will lead to four lanes in both roads. The southern side of Payne Road between Mogil and Kays Road has had it’s boundary moved to widen the road. Another property opposite used to be a horse paddock and it ,too, has had it’s boundary moved back. If there are no plans to widen this road then who was it that ordered it to be widened?
It can only be for one reason, and residents should be aware of what really is going on behind closed doors at City Hall.
