Maurie Meecham interview with Steve Austin on 6.12 ABC

Maurie Meecham had a brief interview on ABC air this morning. The main points made were:

  • The GCA submission may have been counted as only a single submission, but it was effectively 3655 submissions because of the attached petition (this was noted by Steve).
  • There has been little apparent notice taken of our submission so far as the transport corridor route for the Western Brisbane Transport Network Investigation is still shown to the East of Enoggera Dam (Maps 15 and 16). Note: we should note that the corridor is also shown on the major freight route maps (Maps 13 and 14) i.e. heavy transport will be directed on to it as we expected…but now acknowledged by Govt.
  • Maurie briefly explained our position that we were not opposed to a Western Bypass but are opposed to it passing through major areas of the urban footprint in the Plan.
  • The interview finished by suggesting that we are looking forward to being consulted during the investigation over the next few years. We need to keep the pressure on and maybe consider forming a ‘loose’ coalition with neighbouring community groups along the corridor … ‘the more political pressure the more attention we will get’ etc.
