  • Secretary – Tony Barker
  • Treasurer – Phil Anderton.

Car parking at Gap Shopping Centre

Safety concerns were expressed by Ian Arnold regarding car parking in the area outside The Gap markets/Post Office.

ACTION: agreed that the GCA write to the BCC and the shopping centre management expressing our concerns.

Proposed upgrading of Gap Creek Road

It was noted as follows:

  • Kate Jones advised that she is opposed to any bypass through The Gap and that Gap Creek Rd. should not be upgraded.
  • Glen Kiddle advised that he is opposed to any major western bypass through The Gap.
  • Geraldine Knapp advised that she favours the upgrading of Gap Creek Rd and acknowledges that some upgrading will also be necessary on Dillon Rd if the project goes ahead. She also advised that there is no firm decision by the BCC on the upgrading proceeding.
  • Brian and Jenny Hacker commented on the meeting between Councillor de Wit and residents of Gap Creek Road with a 50 kph speed limit and narrow road shoulders being preferred to the options of a higher speed limit and/or broader shoulders.
  • Phil Anderton expressed the view that the upgrade of Gap Creek/Dillon Roads is directly related to government inaction over the congestion on the ‘Metro 5′ (Route 20) road network for which The Gap residents now looks like having to ‘pay the price’.

ACTION: It was agreed that the GCA write to Councillor Graham Quirk asking him to attend the next meeting of the GCA to explain the BCC proposals for Gap Creek/Dillon Roads.

It was also agreed that a Draft Survey seeking the views of local residents be tabled for consideration at the next GCA meeting.

Bus bays in T2 lane on Waterworks Road

Concern was expressed by Murray Vincent that not all bus stops have bus bays and this results in the traffic in the T2 lane being only as fast as the slowest bus.

Concern was also expressed at car parking being allowed in the T2 lane outside peak hours.

ACTION: It was agreed that this matter be placed on the agenda for the next meeting.

Gap Community Centre

Terry Mendies expressed the view that The Gap Pastime/Sports Club is a valuable and significantly underutilised facility both from a sporting & community resource perspective.

ACTION: Agreed that the GCA write to The Gap Pastime Club offering our support for the change process that they are embarking on and seeking a meeting to consider joint opportunities.

Vale Neville Rule

It was sadly noted that long time member and active supporter of the GCA, Neville Rule had recently passed away.

ACTION: Murray Vincent proposed, and it was agreed, that the GCA make a contribution of $50 to the Queensland Cancer Fund.

Geraldine Knapp advised that she would seek an opportunity via the BCC to name a park bench or similar public facility in his memory.
