Old quarry site concerns
The Gap Community Association (GCA) has been inundated with concerns from local residents during recent times at the appalling dust and noise problems that are being created by the current operator of this facility in Settlement Road, located a mere 12 km from the city centre.
Indeed the site backs onto a vital 30 ha bushland environmental wildlife corridor between The Gap and Keperra that Brisbane ratepayers spent in excess of $1m in preserving.
Residents were advised that the site, having been sold by the quarry operator, would become a residential development in keeping with the amenity of the surrounding area; however, this seems to be far from the fact with huge stock piles of decomposed granite and rocks, heavy earth moving equipment and B-Double trucks replacing what should comprise attractive homes and gardens in keeping with the amenity of our leafy suburb.
In response to residents concerns, the GCA has written to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requesting answers to the following questions:
- Do the activities taking place on this site meet the requirements of the EPA and do the noise & dust levels comply with the relevant Environmental Protection Legislation.
- If the answer to 1. is No, then what action does the EPA propose to take to rid The Gap of this totally inappropriate activity?
Similarly, Brisbane City Council (BCC) has been asked:
- Does the BCC consider that the activities taking place on this site meet the zoning requirements of the Council?
- Does the BCC consider that the traffic arrangements for entry & egress to/from the site are safe and adequate?
- If the answer to 1. or 2. is No, then what action does the BCC propose to take to remedy the situation?

Could i bring to your attentiion the fact that heavy ‘”articulate” haulage vehicles start use Settlement Road (a local not Main Road) before 0500am - this am it was 0445. The noise is reverberates throughout the area and wakes up my 8 year old; and we live 2 blocks back (Trebonne Street).
Could I kindly request you raise this matter as either a weight restriction on the road before and after certain times or an alternatve designated freight route needs to be designated. Samson Road would be much better.
Your consideration would be very much appreciated
Regards.
