Status of Western Bypass study

Following a recent executive meeting of the Gap Community Association (GCA), President Andrew McMicking wrote to the Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Paul Lucas, to enquire if the study into the need for a western bypass road ? previously titled the “Western Brisbane Road Network Investigation” ? had commenced yet.

Last year the GCA, plus local residents and the media were advised that this study would commence during 2005-06. The State Government had already committed $5m towards such a study, but were waiting on a further $5 from the Federal Government.

The letter also asked the Minister if he could outline the process and timeframe for the study, if it had indeed started. In particular, the “community engagement process” promised by the State Government last year, and how GCA can be specifically involved.

The Minister was further requested to provide any advice about the study’s projected starting date and processes if it had not yet commenced.
